What is RULER?

RULER is an educational approach based on emotional intelligence, developed by Yale University, which helps students identify, understand and regulate their emotions. It involves teaching students to recognise their feelings, manage them effectively and use this skill to improve their well-being and academic performance. At New Cambridge School, RULER enables us to promote a positive school environment, encouraging empathy, communication and stress management.

What does RULER mean?

How do we implement it?

At New Cambridge School we implement RULER as a cross-curricular project in the classroom through the SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) subject, led by our counsellors. These classes, included in the curriculum, are designed with learning objectives adapted to each student’s stage of development.

In addition, RULER is present in projects of our Learning Support Center, such as the Emotional Health Day, the Global Be Well Day, convivences and in the processes of accompanying students. We also train our teachers to apply strategies, specific to this approach, that promote effective emotional management in the classroom.
